Inept Supervisors
This is how it happened:
I went to check my mail on Thursday, knowing that paychecks were out. I quickly opened up the anticipated check, even though I knew how much money it was going to be. However, after realizing my eyes were not playing tricks on me, I read that my paycheck from the school yearbook had been deducted by $55 that month. I only make $75 to begin with! Why bother even paying me?
Needless to say, I was angry. I knew the reason my supervisor deducted my pay. My photos were in a few days late, but is it ethical to deduct pay as a penalty if not contractually stated? I went to talk to Bill.
We did some research, and found that wage garnishments can only be court ordered. My inept supervisor, (inept is a kind way to describe his leadership and management skills), "garnished" my wages, so to say, as a penalty for failing to fully complete the job requirements. I was also thinking about how this supervisor continually threatens pay deduction if employees do not come to meetings. Lack of ethics. With this, I went to Human Resources the next day.
HR was surprised, appalled, and interested in investigating the situation. Apparently, Trail yearbook can withhold my wages until the assignments are completed, afterwhich my supervisor must relinquish my pay to me. So, either way, I will get the rest of my paycheck. However, I would have thought that my supervisor would have done an evaluation with my, stating my poor work ethics and he plan of action. Simply sending me a paycheck of $20, I thought, was rather tactless and gutless.
Anyhoo, the matter has still not been taken care of, and I have to meet with both my supervisor and HR. I'll keep you posted.
